It can often feel like when we have a distressing or euphoric thought, we must act on it. However, this isn’t the case. Mindfulness of current thought is the practice of allowing your thoughts to exist without acting on them.
Try picturing your thoughts as a cloud drifting by. Allow them to exist and take note of them. Picture them settled on a log as it floats down the river. Make a list of your current thoughts without attaching to any of them. Once you are aware of your thought process, you can apply appropriate skill use.
