- Marsha Linehan
Reasonable mind, emotion mind, and wise mind.
Defined:
A state of mind during which thoughts are purely logical. Emotions are not taken into consideration; everything is based on facts and rationality. Being in reasonable mind means you may have detached yourself from the situation entirely, and are instead looking at it from an outside, analytical viewpoint.
Examples:
Sherlock and House M.D. are often portrayed in reasonable mind.
When it’s Effective:
While studying for/taking a test, driving, working with computers, making a schedule, researching, etc.
Defined:
A state of mind during which thoughts are based on emotions. Facts may be distorted and your perception of reality is often skewed by how you feel.
Examples:
Bella Swan from Twilight and Joey from Friends are often portrayed in emotion mind.
When it's Effective:
While playing with a pet, laughing with friends, dancing around in your room, etc.
Defined: A state of mind during which both reasonable mind and emotion mind are combined. Logic and emotions are both taken into consideration. It is a feeling of intuition, what you know is the right choice; it’s your “gut feeling”.
Note: All of us have access to our wise mind. The voice of our wise mind points us in the direction of what is best for us. Many of us choose to ignore our wise mind, especially when emotionally heightened. Although listening to wise mind is sometimes more difficult than not and can be uncomfortable, doing so will lead you to live a more peaceful an balanced life.
When it’s Effective: When making decisions (big or small), communicating in interpersonal relationships, etc. This is the state of mind it is healthiest to be in most of the time.
